Janis Pereira appointed Chief Operating Officer at MedShr
Janis Pereira joined MedShr, the medical knowledge platform for doctors and healthcare professionals, in 2019 and moves to her new position from her previous role as Chief Engagement and Growth Officer. As COO Pereira will be responsible for cementing MedShr’s position as the leading platform in digital medical learning, as well as spearheading the expansion of free case-based education for healthcare professionals in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Pereira has over 20 years’ experience spanning health, education technology and digital transformation, including leading operations for the Wellcome Trust Centre for Clinical Tropical Medicine and the Royal Free and University College Medical School. Her expertise in digital innovation and data-driven engagement was also instrumental at EdTech giant Kahoot! and global publishers HarperCollins.
Educated in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics and proficient in multiple languages, Pereira has held scientific research roles at the National Research Council of Canada and the University of British Columbia. She has also worked in the Paediatric Infectious Diseases team at Imperial College London, collaborating with clinicians in South Africa, India and South America, and teaching clinical data analysis skills to local healthcare professionals.
As part of MedShr’s senior leadership team, Pereira led MedShr’s expansion into Africa, India and the Middle East, supporting healthcare professionals to quickly learn effective ways to diagnose and manage COVID-19 and other global health challenges. More recently, MedShr has launched a new pilot programme aimed at improving standards of care in under-resourced settings, including newborn screening in sickle cell disease.
Janis Pereira, Chief Operating Officer at MedShr, comments:
“I am delighted to take up the role of Chief Operating Officer. MedShr has evolved and grown so much since I joined – what started as a case discussion app has become an incredibly versatile peer-learning platform with global impact, and even so I feel like the journey is just beginning. With the digital landscape changing at such a breathtaking pace, now is the time to reinforce our foundations and leverage our millions of data points and medical insights to make even more of an impact.
“I’m fortunate to lead a vibrant and talented team of doctors, educators, analysts and innovators. My team challenges me every day to not only draw on my own experience and knowledge, but to learn from theirs. Our greatest successes will come from energising and empowering our team to bring their best to the table, and I can’t think of a better challenge.”
Asif Qasim, founder and CEO of MedShr and consultant cardiologist, comments:
“Janis has a depth of experience in running operations which she combines with analytical expertise and insights into developing digital offerings. She is a proven leader and inspires the team with her energy, enthusiasm and dedication.
"Janis has already demonstrated her capabilities and commitment to the MedShr mission, we are delighted to have her take the lead on our operations across the board.”
