UK health network with global ambition reaches 200,000 members

• MedShr – the app for doctors – now has over 200,000 members in over 180 countries
• The start-up has seen rapid global growth since it launched in late 2015
• MedShr is calling for patients to encourage their doctor to use the system

MedShr, a UK medtech start-up that allows medical professionals to share and discuss clinical cases, has today announced it now has over 200,000 members. Founded in late 2015 by Dr Asif Qasim, a leading cardiologist based in London, MedShr has seen rapid growth around the world with members from over 180 countries. Membership primarily consists of doctors of all grades and specialties, with medical students, nurses, dentists and other healthcare professionals also welcome.

MedShr is a secure, encrypted medical education platform that enables verified medical professionals to discuss clinical cases so that they can share knowledge & skills and ultimately, save lives. Patients can provide consent easily and securely in-app, meeting confidentiality and governance guidelines. The app has been used by doctors in refugee camps to seek specialist advice, and top consultants in the UK, US and Europe to mentor & train junior doctors from every corner of the globe.

Dr Asif Qasim, MedShr Founder & CEO and Consultant Cardiologist, said: “It has been inspiring to see doctors from so many different countries and backgrounds learning from one another. MedShr is now established as the global network for clinical case discussion. “

Dr Qasim has a clear call to action to patients: "To patients I would ask: please encourage your doctor to MedShr your case history - especially if you have complex health issues - so that other doctors might learn from your case and go on to help others.”

MedShr has also recently appointed Dr James Quekett, an experienced GP and former Education Lead at Doctors.net, to lead educational initiatives at MedShr in its next phase of growth. He brings his extensive experience in medical education from one of the world’s largest medical networks.

On joining the MedShr team, Dr Quekett said: “This is an exciting opportunity to work on a rapidly growing mobile case discussion network. I’m particularly keen on how the MedShr platform can be used to solve real-life clinical issues and translate the best evidence into clinical practice.”

MedShr won Facebook Start Social Good App of the Year 2016 and is a founding member of the TechFugees initiative to support victims of the refugee crisis. They have secured partnerships with the BMJ, Doctors.net, Health Education England, Digital Health London, several NHS bodies and a number of commercial partners. Having just secured over £1.5m in its seed funding round, MedShr is now looking to expand its educational partnerships both in the UK and worldwide, and revolutionize medical education with digital technology.
